The potential mechanic ghosts of this M5 (E60) worry me from the standpoint of one fix after another. I don't fear working on a car. I have done head gasket jobs, clutch replacement, rear end replacement and so on on the vehicles I've owned.
1. Door Locks. Repairing BMW problems. SOurce: Bimmerpost. This is one of the most common problems with the BMW cars. People often come across the issue of a door lock in their cars. When you try to lock the doors of these vehicles remotely, it might happen that one door is not locked.
Past cars: 135i, M5, 335d. The F10 550i is becoming my favorite from the list. Every high performance BMW has its quirks. All my past BMWs did, especially the 335d. However, they are all still great cars and BMW fixed a lot of the issues with recalls, warranty repairs, lawsuits, etc.

Hi, My car is a 2005 E60 M5 which I have owned for around 5 years. For the last couple of years it had a No Crank No Start issue with the first cold start of the day, I had been through all the usual suggestions of Earth issues, Relays, etc. but nothing resolved it and finally I had a new CAS unit installed (££ ouch).
Symptom: Car will turn over, will not start. Hypothesis: Lack of fuel, air, and/or spark. Testing hypothesis: Unplugged both MAFS, still no start, no change in characteristics of failed start. Used diagnostic computer to determine fault in fuel pump relay. Replaced fuel pump relay, no change in characteristics. Fault code no longer comes back.
About to sell my E60 M5 and my daily driver ML430 for an X5M. After dealing with the rod bearing hysteria surrounding the E39 M5, I sold it for the (then) trouble free S85 E60 M5. Five minutes later, the S85's became the ticking time bombs that the internet has known to love. Really irritating how the internet can ruin a perfectly good car.
Proper oil needs to be used, and oil changes around 8K kms, proper warm up procedures etc. Things I have replaced personally on the M6. * Bearings - Cost was about 10K, however I did this myself, and would recommend it to noone, rather take it to tunetech. * Actuators - They wear quickly as they are plastic.
